Auriga Services Responds to the Autumn Budget
The government has announced the removal of the two-child benefit cap in its autumn budget. At Auriga, we consider this a positive move to help reduce child poverty and support larger low-income families, allowing more households to access crucial financial assistance.
However, we recognise that the broader financial implications that are impacted by this change include significant tax rises and a freeze of personal tax thresholds. Over time, this may cause difficulties for many working people and those who are already under financial pressure.
Jill Wheeler, our CEO, states, “While today’s Budget may offer some relief for families, it fails to address the deeper financial pressures many are facing, which are likely to intensify. There is a pressing need for increased investment in family support to prevent more people from experiencing crises.”
Our organisation works every day with people and families facing financial difficulties. We strongly encourage the government to pair welfare reforms with effective, hands-on support, such as increased funding for advice services and targeted help with essential living costs.
Auriga Services remains committed to supporting our partners’ beneficiaries through these challenging economic times, ensuring that beneficiaries are receiving the support they are entitled to.
