Over half of social housing tenants in England reported struggling to afford household essentials, and a third have fallen behind on rent or household bills.

For housing associations, their main priorities are to provide safe and affordable homes to tenants but with the cost-of-living crisis, housing teams responsibilities have become so much more, creating more pressure on these teams.

Early intervention

From food insecurity to rising utility costs, many tenants are struggling to manage debt which is leading to an increase in hardship. With early support, many issues can be prevented. At Auriga, we know if someone is behind on a household build, they are likely to be in debt elsewhere too. Falling behind on rent or a utility bill is rarely the only financial issue and often highlights that there is a deeper financial difficulty.

To maintain stable tenancies, tenants need access to support to help with rising costs, unexpected life events and creating financial stability.

Providing the right support to tenants

At Auriga we work with organisations to deliver support solutions to help tenants through life’s challenges, and easing the burden on internal teams.

Tenants can be supported with:

  • Food, fuel, and clothing vouchers: providing immediate relief to support daily living
  • FCA regulated debt advice: allowing tenants to regain control of their finances
  • Income maximisation and welfare benefits: helping to create a lasting impact, ensuring tenants are receiving what they are entitled to as well as how they can reduce outgoings.

How Auriga can help

Stable housing provides a great foundation for people in need of support but many individuals require greater help than this in order to build a safe and sustainable life. Supporting tenants early, creates a bigger impact than waiting for issues to arise.

By providing tailored support solutions, we are able to provide housing teams an extension to their service offerings. Find out more about how we can provide support to your tenants.
