Auriga’s Response to the Gambling Reform White Paper
Responding to the Gambling White Paper 2023, David Woakes Client Solutions Director, said:
“We are pleased to see the much-awaited gambling White Paper, which sets out a strategic approach to future legislation that will see affordability checks and a mandatory levy on companies to aid those who are at risk of gambling-related harm from July 2024.
“Whilst millions enjoy harmless gambling, around 300,000 people in Great Britain are estimated to be experiencing ‘problem gambling’, defined as gambling to a degree which compromises, disrupts, or damages family, personal or recreational pursuits, and a further 1.8 million are identified as gambling at elevated levels of risk.
“We understand the support that those that are often trapped within their circumstances require and welcome the consultation process that will now fully understand how those at risk can be supported through the proposed levy.
“Auriga administers and distributes more than £30 million in grants and funding streams annually for local authorities, utility companies, charities and NHS trusts to support vulnerable people through debt advice, tailored assistance, support, and grants. Through our knowledge and experience we look forward to having discussions on how we can do more to help in the near future.”
